Why handmade soaps?
A lot of people ask, "Why would I want to buy handmade or handcrafted soaps?" The answer is simple: because they are hand made!
Commercial soap, for the most part, is not actually soap; it is DETERGENT! Harsh, drying, filled with chemicals designed to mimic true soap. Perfumes, dyes and other additives that, in many cases, cause allergic reactions.
Handmade and handcrafted soaps are made simply......nothing more than simple, NATURAL ingredients combined to produce safe, allergen free soap that cleanses, moisturizes, and in many cases, rejuvenates and clears up the damage done by commercial soaps.
I will give you an example below.... One of our soap bars' list of ingredients:
Water, sodium hydroxide, olive oil, canola oil, coconut oil, tea tree oil
That is it....nothing else.....3 base oils, one essential oil for for scent and nutrients, water and sodium hydroxide, which is what creates a bar of soap.
Sodium Hydroxide, commonly referred to as lye, is a highly caustic substance. However, it is the ONLY way to make a bar of soap. Used in proper proportions with the aid of a lye calculator, lye and fats (animal or vegetable) are combined, and through the saponification process change a harsh chemical into a harmless and perfectly safe cleansing bar of soap. The saponification process renders ALL of the harmful lye into soap....there is none left after the process is complete.
From the ingredients label of a well-known commercially made soap bar:
Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, Sodium Oleate, Water (Eau), Sodium Isethionate, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Fragrance (Parfum), Sodium Laurate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Chloride, Kaolin or (ou) Titanium Dioxide.
Now I am not completely familiar with the industrial manufacturing of soap. I do know that the process in done by machine and involves complex calculations and processes to combine the aforementioned chamical compounds in to soap
Can you see the difference?
